About the Bakery

Wild Yeast Bakehouse is a community-supported microbakery located in Radnor, Pennsylvania.  We specialize in the crafting and delivery of small-batch, naturally leavened (aka ‘sourdough’) bread emphasizing ingredients sourced locally. The bakery is a registered Limited Food Establishment with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and a member of its PA Preferred program.

Our process is simple – combine flour, water and salt (that’s it!) and artfully manage along with time and temperature to allow naturally occurring yeast and beneficial bacteria to transform these basic ingredients into flavorful, nourishing bread.

We bake a variety of breads on a rotating basis. Most include a base of organic bread flour, and a minimum of 20% (many far higher) whole grains.  Our seasonal offerings may include additions such as fruits, nuts, herbs and seeds to complement the grain. You will find no dough conditioners, preservatives or commercial yeast in any of our bread.

Customers can obtain Wild Yeast Bakehouse breads through our Bread Share subscription service. In exchange for an up-front commitment of a period of one or more months, Wild Yeast Bakehouse will deliver four weekly loaves per month. New Bread Share slots will open as capacity increases and will be announced prior to the start of a month.

Special orders may be accepted, based upon availability.

About the Baker

I’m John, founder and baker at Wild Yeast Bakehouse. Following a nearly thirty-year career in Corporate Finance, I’ve redirected my efforts to my ‘side’ passion for connecting to others through food.  A self-taught baker, I’ve found myself captivated by the art and science behind slow-fermented, naturally-leavened bread.

Wild Yeast Bakehouse was created to share this passion with my local community.  In addition to providing delicious, healthy bread to our customers, the company also strives to promote and support the local grain economy by sourcing ingredients from local farms and grain mills, wherever possible.
