Our Bread

Wild Yeast Bakehouse’s approach is simple: cultivate naturally occurring yeast and combine with flour, water and sea salt – all managed with time and temperature - to produce flavorful, nourishing breads for the local community. The Company strives to elevate the awareness of the grain economy by sourcing local (when available) ingredients, with a strong emphasis on freshly-milled organic and heritage grains.

Wild Yeast Bakehouse is a member of the PA Department of Agriculture’s PA Preferred program, which allows consumers to easily and identify PA grown and processed goods.

We are proud to source ingredients from the following local vendors:

  • Castle Valley Mill (Doylestown, PA) - Stone ground whole wheat, rye, and spelt flour ; stone ground oats and heirloom grits

  • Small Valley Milling (Halifax, PA) - Organic bread flour

  • New-Bee Ranch (Pottstown, PA) - Honey

  • Whiskey Hollow Maple (Warren Center, PA) - Maple syrup

  • La Cabra Brewing (Berwyn, PA) - Spent brewer’s grain

Meadowood Sourdough

Our house sourdough loaf. A great everyday bread. A blend of organic strong bread flour and stone ground whole wheat flour combined with water and fine sea salt. Mild in flavor and light in texture. Also available as a seeded loaf, with the inclusion of sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

Country 50:50

A fifty-percent whole grain loaf. A blend of stone ground spelt and whole wheat combined with organic bread flour, water and fine sea salt. A longer fermentation period produces a more robust flavor and texture.

Cinnamon Raisin

Our Meadowood Sourdough, with an ample inclusion of raisins and roasted cinnamon. Wonderful toasted.

Oat Porridge

A slightly tangy loaf with the incorporation of slow-cooked oats and locally produced honey. The inclusion of the oat porridge lends a ‘custardy’ texture to the bread and great flavor. A softer crust and slightly sweet flavor make this a favorite with kids.

Honey Spelt

A nutty and slightly sweet-flavored loaf highlighting the delicious flavor of this ancient grain.

Rustic Rye

 

Our version of a deli-style rye. The base of organic bread flour and a touch of whole wheat provides structure to the loaf while allowing the taste of the locally-grown whole rye to come to the forefront.

Olive Herb
